Sheriff needs command background, Endorsement by George McMahon 8/9/2018 Chisago County Press
Chisago County is fortunate to have five very fine candidates running for Sheriff. All have many years of demonstrated experience as licensed peace officers and patrol officers.
Only one candidate for Sheriff has successfully demonstrated command-level experience as required of a police chief or county sheriff. That person is current Chisago County Sheriff Brandon Thyen.
The Chisago County Sheriffs Office is a large law-enforcement organization, with over 100 employees and nearly $6 million annual budget. As the county's chief law-enforcement officer, Sheriff Thyen not only supervises patrol and investigation functions, but also oversees our County Jail, all Emergency (911) communications, and Homeland Security/Emergency Management.
The Sheriff’s Office enforces important commercial and environmental regulations, approved permits and provides civil process for judgments, court orders and other legal actions. The Sheriff also supports the work of our County Attorney, County Courts and Probation, as well as our efforts to intervene and protect at-risk children and vulnerable adults.
Sheriff Thyen also has served as the face and voice of Chicago County here at home, in St. Paul, and with the media and statewide organizations.
He leads efforts to inform and educate our communities, our neighborhoods and our schools on important public safety issues. His staff also provides local law-enforcement services to six communities: Center City, Harris, Rush city, Shafer, Stacy and Taylors falls.
For nearly three years, Brandon has served with exceptional distinction in command-level positions, first as Chief Deputy Sheriff and now as Sheriff. With some 20 years experience with Chisago County, 12 as Leader/supervisor, Brandon espouses the professionalism, stability and leadership needed to serve as elected Sheriff.
I, for one, and thankful for the dedication and commitment to community demonstrated by all five candidates for Sheriff.
However, only one candidate - current Chisago County Sheriff Brandon Thyen - has successfully proven he has both the leadership and experience to serve as Sheriff.
